Shells on the Shore of Pain

It is Tuesday, April 18, 2006 AD and I awoke this afternoon (I work the graveyard shift for a pharmaceutical company) with a screaming headache. The tide of pain is starting to withdraw now – after I got a little coffee in me – so I’m looking amongst the detritus, the driftwood, for some intact white shells of coherent thought.

This is my first blog entry, though I have been a regular contributor to the community blog called Storytellers Unplugged, where I am one of about 30 writers who post on a monthly basis. My day of the month is the 24th. I’m happy with the little essays I’ve put there, and the comments have been rewarding. Check out their archive, and I may even bring these essays to my own personal blog and post them here as “reprints” at times when I am extra busy…or have an extra bad headache.

Well…right now there’s something catching my eye and demanding my attention. I have a list of projects taped beside my monitor. It is imposing, but it is exciting that it should be there at all. I can’t give the contents of this list in full, until there are some formal announcements, but foremost on the list is the word DEADSTOCK. I must finish writing this novel, commissioned for new Science Fiction/Fantasy publisher Solaris, and then polish it up all nice-like, preferably before I go to Viet Nam for the month of July to stay with my wife Hong’s family. DEADSTOCK being a novel set in my dark and dangerous future city called Punktown (the setting for my earlier books PUNKTOWN, MONSTROCITY, EVERYBODY SCREAM!, PUNKTOWN: SHADES OF GREY, PUNKTOWN: THIRD EYE, PUNKTOWN AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, PUNKTOWN IDOL, DEBBY DOES PUNKTOWN, DESPERATE MUTANTS, and so on). It’s a detective thriller, it’s a horror story, it’s bizarre. I’m very enthusiastic about it, and its release in early 2007.

Well, I need more coffee. I need less pain. I need to write…
