My Xmas gifts to Germany: Hell and Cthulhu!

In the past, the wonderful German publishing house Festa Verlag has done a limited edition hardcover of my collection PUNKTOWN (each copy signed by Michael Marshall Smith, who did the intro, and cover artist H. R. Giger!), a paperback edition of PUNKTOWN, and a paperback of my novel MONSTROCITY.

Now, I”ve just signed contracts for Festa to do a German-language translation of my novel LETTERS FROM HADES, and a collection of my Cthulhu Mythos fiction. Not sure yet what the title of the latter will be, but the contents are probably going to consist of the stories:
THE BONES OF THE OLD ONES, AVATARS OF THE OLD ONES, THE YOUNG OF THE OLD ONES, CHILDREN OF THE DRAGON, I MARRIED A SHOGGOTH, SERVILE, CONGLOMERATE, THROUGH OBSCURE GLASS, OUT OF THE BELLY OF SHEOL, THE FACE OF BAPHOMET, CORPSE CANDLES, and PAZUZU’S CHILDREN, for a total of about 79,000 words. 79,000 English words, anyway! Though how do you translate “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn” into German?
Anyway, I’m off to Vietnam on Weds. morning, to return on Jan. 23rd. In case I don’t have an opportunity to blog during that time (though I would hope to share some of my experiences over there, as I’ve done in the past), I wish anyone who might read this a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND MORE PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

I’m glad to hear that more of your books have been licensed in Germany, Jeffrey! I’ll definitely buy “Letters from Hades”! I am not sure about the Cthulhu collection yet, since “Unholy Dimensions” will be one of my Christmas presents.
I hope you’ll enjoy your stay in Vietnam and I wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a great start into 2010!

Ahh, yes, my German Cthulhu Mythos collection consists entirely of stories from UNHOLY DIMENSIONS, except for one new tale called CHILDREN OF THE DRAGON, which takes place in…Vietnam.
Best in 2010 to you, too, Isabel, and thanks as always for your support of my work!

Although I have already read most of your books (especially the Punktown ones) in English, it’s really great to see that more of your novels are going to be translated into German. They really deserve to be read by a wider group of people.
I’ve just been listening to the third volume of the German audio book of Punktown and was surprised to discover a story from “Voices of Punktown” on it. Didn’t even know that this one was translated into German…or was that especially for this audio production?
Anyway, greetings from Germany and a happy new year to you.

Awww, seems like the previous message I left here never made it on the site for some strange reason…so I just post it once again.
I’m very happy to see more of your books getting translated into German (or in fact any other) language, although I have read all your Punktown novels in English already. You deserve the wide publication. I just love your books.
I listened to the German audio books of the Punktown short stories recently and noticed that they had the Dance of Ugghiutu on the third volume. I didn’t even know that it got translated into German. Does that mean we can expect more German goodies?
Greetings from Germany and thank you again for your wonderful stories.

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, Andreas; I’ve been on vacation abroad. Anyway, I’m so very flattered that you’ve been following my books in English, and in German too via the CDs. DANCE OF UGGHIUTU was originally translated into German for the hardcover edition of Punktown, the one with cover art by H R Giger, and so it appeared there BEFORE “Voices From Punktown.” Anyway, as for future projects: I have seen a cover mockup for the German collection of my Cthulhu Mythos stories and it ROCKS, but I’m supposed to keep things hush hush for now until all the paperwork gets done, so…shhh! (Thanks again!)
